Title: Gluck: Art and Identity
Dates: 18 November 2017 to 11 March 2018
Major new exhibition exploring the life and work of artist Gluck (1895-1978). Named Hannah Gluckstein at birth, the artist is now also recognised as a trailblazer of gender fluidity. The artist mixed with the Newlyn School of painters, and adopted the name Gluck, creating a controversial masculine identity incorporating men’s tailoring, barber-cut short hair and a mannish demeanour. The exhibition is superb in terms of exploring the identity formation of the painter, providing a glimpse into their life at a specific point in time and considering elements of style in their painting.
